One of the famous Tall Ships coming out of Salem has been dry-docked in Maine. Rotting wood has stopped the sailing of this vessel because they must repair the area before it spreads further.
“It’s a disappointment, but it’s something you work on, something you prepare for,” said Jeremy Bumagin, rigger for the Friendship. “You’ve got to put the safety of the ship and the safety of the people before anything else.”
The ship was built in 1998 and was undergoing its scheduled maintenance when the workers discovered that a piece of wood on the ship’s bow was rotted.
Sail Boston was informed that the ship would not make it last week.
The work will take at least until the end of the month.
