Flags flying outside Ken Triplett’s home in East Mesa, Texas,
are causing controversy.
An upside-down American flag is being flown underneath another
flag that bears a swastika.
“It represents Communism,” Triplett said. “The politicians don’t
care about the American people, and it’s the same way Adolf Hitler
got started.”
Triplett said the swastika is strictly a Communist symbol and
that he’s not racist in any way. He added the upside-down American
flag represents a veteran in distress.
But some neighbors are up in arms over the flags. “It’s
understandable the way he feels about it, but it’s still really
disrespectful in my opinion — veteran or anyone that’s currently
serving — that he would fly above the United States flag,” said
resident Anthony Del Bozque.
“That’s politics, that’s not personal distress…he’s not
physically in danger,” he added.
Triplett argues that he’s 100 percent patriotic, having served
in Iraq from 2003 to 2006. And he said he’s fully aware of the
criticism he’ll be receiving.
“If they want to get offended, go ahead…I don’t really care,”
he said. “Let them get mad, let them come over and talk to me, but
that flag will never come down until it changes so get used to
it.”
But Del Bozque is readying for battle. “I’ll fight it tooth and
nail as long as I can until I can get something passed to say he
has to take it down.”
